Chapter 24: Seeking my new family

Once I had reached wolflands, it all become clear to me. It was not only my mind being weak, but it was the mountains that blocked my ability to talk with other denizens. In the wolflands it felt much easier to reach out with my mind. Infact it felt I could even reach the stars but I did not try nonetheless. My old friend was just a thought away. My first words with him were short but decisive enough to alter my life forever. "Hello again my friend. I want to be part of your family". "Hello my friend, where have you been all this time?", "I will prepare the necessary arrangements to get you assimilated!", was his swift reply from far away.

Travelling in the wolflands That's it!, I thought. The future looked bright and I was very glad about that. Now I would not be lonely anymore. Gone are the days that I'd rather stay in bed than wake up in the warm morning sun. I was feeling refreshed, anew, just like when I was first born and everything seemed new and shining.

Although I knew the wolflands all too well, I couldn't stop by at any wolf city for refreshments. Mahrims are my racial enemies, and no matter my skill in diplomacy, I would never convince any mahrim major that I meant no harm. Once I get too close to their cities their magical towers would relentlessly send electrifying zaps of energy at me. Thus I made sure to keep at bay, but I had to stop somewhere as my clothes were stinking and the horse was very tired. The best thing was to make it to the human lands, but these were very far away. I was quite certain that I would not make it till the evening and at night I would end up an easy prey for dangerous creatures that lurk in the forest.

Wolflands at night I had no other choice but to pull by at the closest chaos city near the area of Xirdak. This happened to be the city of Aldenfau where enemies and friends alike are all welcome here. In these special cities there are no laws but that of the blade. You could kill anyone if you want to but in my case it's more a case of getting myself killed. I approached the city silently as a fox and when I made sure no one was around, I made a dash to the safe to store my precious stuff. It turned out that I had just wasted half an hour of my life crouching slowly because no one was there at the start and no one turned up till late night when I went to sleep. Rather than a chaos city, it looked more like a ghost town to me. The idea of sleeping in a ghost town was not very ideal to my tastes, but before thinking about it twice, my mind was already drifting into the dream world.

The following morning I woke up early and I could already hear cheers and babbling. I was not dreaming. They were my new family members, all excited to meet Looroll's old friend!
